Luke 4: 17 - 21
The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it he found the place where it is written: [18] "The spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anoited me to preached good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, [19] to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were on him [21] and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.

Matthew 26: 14-16 - "Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went into the chief priests, What will ye give me, and I will deliver his unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. [16] And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him." Matthew 27: 3 - 8 - When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty solver coins to the chief proests and the elders. [4] "I have sinned, for I have betrayed innocent blood." "What is this to us?" they replied. "That is your responsibility." [5] So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. He went away and hanged himself. [6] The priest picked up the coins and said, "It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money." Acts 10: 42, 43 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. [43] All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. |
God specifically gave the prophecies detailing aspects of Christ's life in advance to reveal who Jesus really is. They are not meant simply to satisfy some intellectual curiosity. The prophet Isaiah even outlined parts of Jesus' ministry in advance. Isaiah wrote: |
"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and . . . to comfort all who mourn." Isaiah 61: 1, 2 |
It is important to note that many of the prophecies about Jesus were forfilled in the last 24 hours of his life. |
