Excuse for Unbelief
Quotations from the writings of Ellen G. White with the phrase . . .
While God has given ample evidence for faith, He will never remove all excuse for unbelief. All who look for hooks to hang their doubts upon will find them. And those who refuse to accept and obey God's word until every objection has been removed, and there is no longer an opportunity for doubt, will never come to the light. Great Controversy, page 527.2 |
Light and darkness, truth and error, are before us. We are free to choose. God will never remove all excuse for unbelief. Those who look for hooks to hang their doubts upon, will find them close at hand. It is far easier to suggest doubts than to inspire faith. Because the natural heart is at enmity with God, a greater effort is required to believe than to doubt the word of the Most High. And Satan himself opposes everything that would strengthen faith. {ST, June 8, 1882 par. 24} |
Those who have passed through a struggle to rise above the realm of doubt and conjecture, realize that "while God has given ample evidence for faith, He will never remove all excuse for unbelief. All who look for hooks to hang their doubts upon, will find them. And those who refuse to accept and obey God's Word until every objection has been removed, and there is no longer an opportunity for doubt, will never come to the light."-- Great Controversy, p. 527. There is no excuse for unbelief |
Let us, then, bring the lessons of Christ into our practical life, and we shall realize as the fulfillment of the prayer of Christ in all its specifications, "And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it; that the love wherewith thou hast loved me, may be in them, and I in them." Let the mind embrace the largeness of the promise, and contemplate the richness that is expressed. There is no excuse for unbelief. {PH084 22.2}
