Quotations from the writings of Ellen G. White with the phrase . . .

Our  washing  and  ironing  time.

Our Washing and Ironing Time  -  -   We know in whom we believe.  Men may talk about our having our minds fixed too much upon heaven, but we know better.  We have been in the work nearly forty-eight years, and we know something about God's service.  I know best what bereavement is when I stand here alone, when he who stood by my side, and on whose large affections I have leaned for thirty years, is gone, and yet I am not alone, for Christ is my helper. Oh, I wish the curtains could be rolled back and we could see Christ in His glory.  We are to be members of the royal family, children of the heavenly King.  Now it is our privilege to know that Christ is by our side as our helper.  {RY 156.1}
Christ says, "I know thy works."  He knows whether you are living a life of perfection and if you love to talk and think of Him, and whether it is your joy to praise Him. Do we expect to get to heaven at last and join the heavenly choir?  Just as we go into the grave we will come up as far as the character is concerned.  For this mortal shall put on immortality and this corruptible shall put on incorruption (See 1 Cor. 15:54).  It is the body that will be changed then, but now is the time for washing and ironing.  It is the time to wash our robes and make them white in the blood of the Lamb. -- Ms 84, 1886.  {RY 156.2}

This is our washing and ironing time
This is our washing and ironing time, -- the time when we are to cleanse our robes of character in the blood of the Lamb. John says, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." I thank Thee, my heavenly Father, I praise Thee, that Thou hast given us Jesus, to take away our sins. Shall we not let Him take them away? Shall we not let our sins go?  {GCB, April 6, 1903 par. 12}

the  washing  and  ironing  time

"Every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He is pure." Well, every man can have that hope. We have it, then what should we do? Is it every man that professeth to have the hope? No, there are those who talk about it, but they have not the love of Jesus and are in a worse condition than the unbeliever. They understand, but do they hold themselves as the light of the world? What is it to be a light to the world?--It is to recognize Christ as our example. It is to show Christian politeness, never to scold and fret, but to be in a condition where we can constantly carry the minds of others upward. This is the work of everyone who names the name of Christ. It is to depart from the works of iniquity; it is to wash our garments in the blood of the Lamb. We are in the washing and ironing time. Now we are to have every sin and iniquity taken from us, and the white linen put upon us, the wedding garment.  {2SAT 52.3}
