Psalm 25

Psalm 25.

1 > Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.	To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul;
2 > O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.	in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame.
3 > Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.	No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherius without excuse.
4 > Show me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.	Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths
5 > Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou [art] the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.	guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior
6 > Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they [have been] ever of old.	Remember, O Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
7 > Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD.	Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O Lord.
8 > Good and upright [is] the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way	Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9 > The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.	He guides the humble in what is right and teachs them his way.
10 > All the paths of the LORD [are] mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.	All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11 > For thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it [is] great.	For the sake of your name, O Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
12 > What man [is] he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way [that] he shall choose.	Who, then is the man who fears the Lord? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him
13 > His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.	He will spend his days in prosperity, and his descendants will inherit the land.
14 > The secret of the LORD [is] with them that fear him; and he will show them his covenant.	The Lord confides in those who fear him; he makes his convenant known to them.
15 > Mine eyes [are] ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.	My eyes are even on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare.
16 > Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I [am] desolate and afflicted.	Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 > The troubles of my heart are enlarged: [O] bring thou me out of my distresses.	The troubles of my heart have multiplied; free me from my anguish
18 > Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.	Look upon my affliction and my distress and take away all my sins.
19 > Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.	See how my enemies have increased and how fiercely they hate me!
20 > O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.	Guard my life and rescue me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
21 > Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.	May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope is in you.
22 > Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.	Redeem Israel, O God, from her troubles.

Faithful men, who were obedient to the promptings of God's Spirit and the teachings of His word, were to proclaim this warning to the world. They were those who had taken heed to the "sure word of prophecy," the "light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the daystar arise." 2 Peter 1:19. They had been seeking the knowledge of God more than all hid treasures, counting it "better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold." Proverbs 3:14. And the Lord revealed to them the great things of the kingdom. "The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him; and He will show them His covenant." Psalm 25: 14. {GC 312.2}

"The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him." Psalm 25:14. Abraham had honored God, and the Lord honored him, taking him into His counsels, and revealing to him His purposes. "Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?" said the Lord. "The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous, I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know." God knew well the measure of Sodom's guilt; but He expressed Himself after the manner of men, that the justice of His dealings might be understood. Before bringing judgment upon the transgressors He would go Himself, to institute an examination of their course; if they had not passed the limits of divine mercy, He would still grant them space for repentance. Patriarchs and Prophets, page 139.1

Their accusations were borne by Moses in uncomplaining silence. It was the experience gained during the years of toil and waiting in Midian--the spirit of humility and long-suffering there developed--that prepared Moses to meet with patience the unbelief and murmuring of the people and the pride and envy of those who should have been his unswerving helpers. Moses "was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth," and this is why he was granted divine wisdom and guidance above all others. Says the Scripture, "The meek will He guide in judgment: and the meek will He teach His way." Psalm 25:9. The meek are guided by the Lord, because they are teachable, willing to be instructed. They have a sincere desire to know and to do the will of God. The Saviour's promise is, "If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine." John 7:17. And He declares by the apostle James, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." James 1:5. But His promise is only to those who are willing to follow the Lord wholly. God does not force the will of any; hence He cannot lead those who are too proud to be taught, who are bent upon having their own way. Of the double-minded man--he who seeks to follow his own will, while professing to do the will of God -- it is written, "Let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord." James 1:7. {PP 384.2}

Impressions alone are not a safe guide to duty. The enemy often persuades men to believe that it is God who is guiding them, when in reality they are following only human impulse. But if we watch carefully, and take counsel with our brethren, we shall be given an understanding of the Lord's will; for the promise is, "The meek will He guide in judgment: and the meek will He teach His way." Psalm 25:9. {AA 279.2}

For years we labored to beat back the prejudice and subdue the opposition that at times threatened to overwhelm the faithful standard-bearers of truth--the heroes and heroines of faith. But we found that those who were seeking God in humility and contrition of soul, were able to discern between the true and the false. "The meek will He guide in judgment: and the meek will He teach His way." Psalm 25:9. {CET 80.3}

So long had the Jews refused to walk in the light of truth, that they rejected their Saviour. Jesus said of the Jews: "Ye will not come to Me, that ye might have life" (John 5:40). He, the Light of life, came to enlighten every man that comes into the world, so that no man need walk in darkness. The light of truth is constantly shining, but many men and women comprehend it not. And why?--Because selfishness, egotism, pride, blinds their spiritual eyesight. Standing between them and the true light, is the idol of their own opinion. They can see very readily that which they wish to see. Saith the True Witness: "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God" (Revelation 2:7). "The secret of the Lord is with them that fear Him" (Psalm 25:14). {1888 895.3}
